Hong Kong cruised to a relatively straight forward 2-0 win over Singapore at Mong Kok Stadium on October 11th, 2016. The opponents did not stamp their authority on the game and – despite several chances – they failed to convert the few opportunities they had. Singapore have been on a poor run of form and will need to drastically improve before they take part in November’s Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup.
Hong Kong took the lead on the 42nd minute with a calm and collected finish by Alex Akande while in the 70th minute Huang Yang smashed home a 20 yard drive from outside the box after nice build up play by the Hong Kong attack. Hong Kong will use this game as a launch pad for their EAFF second round qualifiers against Guam, Chinese Taipei and North Korea in November.
