Established as a district team in 1958, the club enjoyed some successes in their early playing days, and were the first ever district team to play in the top flight after gaining back-to-back promotions from their first season in the Third Division. They then won their first and (to date) only league title in the 1962-63 season, and are particularly well known for their solitary FA Cup win in the 1978-79 season where they beat Seiko to stop them winning every available domestic title. They disbanded in 1980, however, due to financial problems, and it seemed as though the club had met its end. 23 years had passed when in 2003 they were reborn, once again re-entering the league’s lowest division. They gradually rose through the ranks, and secured promotion back to the top flight in 2013 where they have remained since. Their football fanatic chairman Wilson Wong has put together a solid team with a tight-knit and ever-growing fanbase, making solid signings over the summer to set the team up for what promises to be a strong season.

② The only club in the league this year situated in the western New Territories, the club will appeal to those based in the area, particularly around Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan and of course Yuen Long itself.

Tickets are priced at $80 for all games. Tickets can almost always be purchased on match days at the ground. Jerseys are on sale at home games outside the stadium, priced at $499 for non-club members and $459 for members, or they can be purchased at Kitroom Sports in Mong Kok.

A Serbian attacking midfielder (centre) who joined the Tangerines midway through last season, his four goals in eleven appearances helped secure his team’s survival in the Premier League. Yuen Long do seem to be light in attack this campaign, and his prowess will be relied upon even more this term to ensure the New Territories-based club do not end up in another relegation scrap.
