ROUND-UP

In the first match of the weekend, R&F beat Hong Kong FC by 1:0 in their relegation crunch match after a seventh minute strike from Chuck Yiu Kwok. Both sides traded chances, but ultimately there was to be no equaliser, and the home side move up into 9th in the league to put some breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone.
Saturday’s first game saw Sapling fall to tenth place after they were soundly beaten at home by Southern by o:4, with the goals coming from Roberto Fronza, Wellingsson de Souza, a Michael Luk penalty and Liang Zicheng. The Aberdeeners move up to seventh in the standings, now just two points off the playoff spots.
In Saturday’s evening game, Pegasus pulled off a shock win over South China to give Kevin Bond his first win in charge after his return to the club. Travis Major put them ahead but Leung Nok Hang levelled for the Caroliners on the stroke of half time. There was to be a winner though, as Macau International Leong Ka Hang found the net four minutes before the end of normal time, giving Pegasus a much needed 2:1 win. They remain in sixth place, whilst South China stay third with their title aspirations all but finished.
In Sunday’s afternoon kick off, Tai Po traded chances with former champions Kitchee and had a goal-bound header cleared off the line, but a screamer from Lam Ka Wai in the second half was enough to put them top of the table, though having played a game more than rivals Eastern. The Greens remain in the playoff places in fifth position.
In the final match of the round, Rangers went ahead just before half time with a debut goal from new Brazilian striker Denis, but were pegged back by Yuen Long with two quickfire goals in the second half from Yip Tsz Chun and Lau Ho Lam to steal a 1:2 victory. The Tangerines are flying this season and sit level on points with South China in fourth place, whilst Rangers slip to eigth but still well clear of the relegation zone.
