South China will face the Malaysian Super League side Johor Southern Tigers (Johor Darul Takzim) in the Quarter Finals of the 2015 AFC Cup, Asia’s second highest inter-club competition. The 1st leg will take place in Malaysia on 25 Aug 2015 (KO: 2045), the 2nd leg will be hosted by South China on 15 Sep 2015 at Mong Kok Stadium. In this year’s AFC Cup group stage Kitchee has already played against Johor, winning the home game 2:0 while losing 0:2 in Malaysia. What makes this quarter final even more interesting: Johor’s new coach Mario Gomez just left South China in May.
Kitchee, which advanced to the AFC Cup semi final in 2014, has to face an even tougher quarter final draw this year: The current HK champion will have to take on Kuwait SC, three time AFC Cup winner and probably one of the strongest teams in the tournament. Similar to Kitchee, Kuwait SC, also known as Al Kuwait, has also just won the domestic league once again. The 1st leg will take place in Kuwait on 26 Aug 2015, the 2nd leg will be hosted by Kitchee on 16 Sep 2015 at Mong Kok Stadium.
