Hong Kong held on to defeat a spirited Guam side 3-2 to secure three vital points in their first EAFF qualifying match. Akande and Sandro were on the score sheet for Hong Kong with Sandro scoring an incredible second goal (half volley) though it was a mixed night for him as he also missed a penalty.
Guam fought back in the second half and pushed Hong Kong all the way till the end with goals from Jason Cunliffe and Shane Malcolm. The game ended 3-2 to Hong Kong and the home side will have to improve their levels of concentration if they wish to win the group and qualify for the finals in Japan 2017.
In the second round of games, Hong Kong will play Chinese Taipei this coming Wednesday, November 9th at 8pm at Mong Kok stadium. Guam will play North Korea at 5pm at the same venue.
