WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT THEM?

• Originally formed by the HKFA with the development of youngsters in mind, Sapling are a great choice for anyone wanting to see some of the local hot prospects in action.
  
• Despite competing in the Premier League for the first time this season, the club were actually formed 6 years ago for the 2011/12 season. Any previous fans should be glad to see their return to the big time!
• Situated closely to Diamond Hill and Choi Hung MTR stations, the club will be appealing to those living in the general Wong Tai Sin area.

STADIUM INFORMATION

HAMMER HILL SPORTS GROUND (Capacity: 2,200)

TICKETS & MERCHANDISE: Tickets can be purchased on the match days, usually priced at $80 dollars.

BRING YOUR OWN BEER?: Alcohol purchased outside of the stadium is permitted to be brought in, provided it is not in glass bottles. There is also a small kiosk that has a limited selection of snacks and drinks.

HOW TO GET THERE: Take the MTR to Choi Hung station (Exit C2) from where it is approximately a 10 minute walk.

 HISTORY

Having a so-called Sapling team for the development of local players in Hong Kong is actually not an entirely new idea. Following the bankruptcy of the club Mutual in 2011, the HKFA had to occupy an empty spot in the league and eventually decided to field a national youth team in preparation of the 2013 East Asian games. However, after finishing 9th out of 10, the club was relegated and consequently dissolved. Nevertheless, despite this early failure, the “Sapling” idea remained. In 2015, the HKFA introduced the Sapling Cup to encourage the Premier League clubs to field more local players in competitive matches. After the 2015/16 season, another club (Dreams) was forced into unexpected relegation due to financial constraints, and hence, the Sapling team made their comeback – also to minimize the impact for professional players in Hong Kong. This time the club managed to secure additional funding from 2 sponsors and is therefore also known under the name “Biu Chun Glory Sky”.
